A Few Words About Me....

Welcome everyone !
Today, for the launch of my first blog I thought I would just share a bit about myself. My name is Andrea, and currently I call the town of Denver, North Carolina home.  Nestled in the center of bigger cities and towns like Charlotte, Mooresville, and Hickory I have been able to keep my Charlotte roots (I'm a 4th generation native Charlottian), my family close, and still reap the benefits of having a more rural lifestyle to enjoy with my husband and our dog. The time I spend with my family and friends is priceless to me, so although work or adventure may take me over seas, or to far away places, this area will always be home.

I am a senior at Appalachian State University, majoring in Communications, with a concentration in Advertising, and minoring in Health Promotion. Before attending Appalachian, I earned an Associates degree in Business Administration and Marketing from Central Piedmont Community College.  While I enjoy the creativity of marketing, I also had a draw to the field of medicine and health.  Nutrition, the human body, alternative medicines, and psychology have always been fields that I have had a personal interest in, as well as the desire to help others. Over the years I have worked off in on in healthcare, early on as a nationally certified Pharmacy Technician, and more recently as a Scientific Communications Coordinator for a medical writer with a focus on oncology medications. This position helped introduced me to the field of Health Promotion. I finally had a clear image of what I wanted to be when I grow up....after several years of searching for my niche I had found a career field that could combine my two interest, Marketing and Healthcare.  I enrolled in the Bachelors program at Appalachian in Fall 2012.  Each day has held many exciting and at times difficult challenges, but it has been well worth it.  As May and graduation approach I am looking forward to being an contributor and innovative member of these field.
